Nick proposed to me over dinner at the Dans le Noir restaurant on 13th January 2014. I was completely stunned, as this was actually Nick's birthday and I had planned dinner for him as a surprise.
So I got the biggest shock of my life when Nick got down on one knee and nervously uttered the words, "will you marry me?" whilst presenting me with the most beautiful diamond I've ever seen! I had the biggest smile on my face and didn't keep him waiting for the response.
The only downside was that the restaurant was called Dans le Noir for a reason... because we would be eating in the dark - something I knew Nick would be just as excited as I was to try out! So I had an awesome rock on my hand that I couldn't see for the next couple of hours whilst we tested our heightened senses by eating our food in the dark.
We still chuckle about it now...
When Don and I first met in 2007, we found that we shared many common interests and we quickly became friends. However we didn't click beyond the friendship level, and there was no romance. We kept in occasional touch over the years, and I always had in the back of my mind that I had missed a chance and that Don was "the one that got away."
When we met up again in the summer of 2013 - just a couple of friends for a quick drink - things immediately felt different... I guess we had both changed over the years, and maybe grown up (I know I had - a bit!) and somehow things clicked between us in a way they never had before. It just seemed like now was our time, and I was so happy that I had got a second chance!
Our friendship quickly grew into romance, and by the end of the year we were already talking about getting engaged. With the ring chosen by the end of 2013, I had to decide when to pop the question!
Doing it on my birthday might seem a bit unconventional - although anyone who knows us well will know that that's both of our ways - but as Don knew I had the ring by then I felt like I couldn't stretch it out any longer! I was super-nervous on the evening we went out for dinner, and I was acting quite suspect trying to conceal the large ring box on the way to the restaurant.
When we got there I made sure we had a drink in the (very small) bar area before taking our table - I knew it was now or never as we were about to go into the dark!
I could tell Don knew I was up to something, but when I went down on one knee, took out the ring and asked "will you marry me?" I could see both huge surprise and - thank god - happiness on Don's face!
She said "yes" immediately, and right then I can honestly say was the best moment of my life. The nervousness washed away and I was overjoyed that the woman I had fallen in love with was going to be my wife!
Three months after the proposal, we held our engagement party at Radio Bar on the Melia hotel roof terrace in Aldwych.
We had a lovely afternoon with our friends and family and enjoyed a typical mix of April sunshine and showers whilst the prosecco flowed and the cupcakes disappeared!
